CHANDIGARH: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested a man and his son for allegedly trying to smuggle 520 grams of heroin worth Rs 20 lakh from Mohali on Friday night.
The accused are Mandeep Singh, a resident of Banur, Patiala, and his son Abhijit. NCB sleuths laid a naka near Lahili village after receiving a tip-off that the two would be coming in a Hyundai I-20 car with the contraband. NCB said the accused had hidden the heroin in 10 oval-shaped balls and covered them with a tape. The accused used to buy heroin from Delhi for Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per gram and sold it for around Rs 3,500 per gram in Mohali and Patiala.
NCB officials said the two accused were into drug trafficking for three years and used to visit Delhi twice a month to procure drugs. On Saturday, a court sent the two in one-day police custody.
On January 31, the NCB arrested two Punjab residents and recovered 268 grams of heroin from them from near Dappar toll plaza.
