SRINAGAR: Former IAS officer-turned-politician Shah Faesal was on Saturday booked under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) by the Jammu and Kashmir government.

The J&K Political Movement chairman is the eighth mainstream politician to be booked under the PSA since August 5 last year when the Centre scrapped Article 370 and bifurcated J&K state into two Union Territories.

Faesal was detained at Delhi airport on August 14 when he was about to fly Turkey. The JKPM leader was sent to Srinagar where he is under detention at MLA hostel.

The former IAS officer was informed about the government’s decision by an official, who also handed him a copy of detention and PSA dossier.

Under the PSA, a person can be detained without trial for three months. The detention can be extended up to two years.  Official sources said as Faesal’s detention under Section 107 of CrPC was expiring on Saturday, he was booked under the PSA as authorities feared that his release would have adverse impact on law and order situation in the Kashmir Valley.
