LUCKNOW: A 45-year-old woman was bludgeoned to death by a relative in Saadatganj while a 35-year-old man was found murdered in his house in Thakurganj on Saturday.
In the first incident, Rama Kanti Devi of Naveen Nagar locality in Saadatganj was found dead in her house. After the death of her husband Mohit Pandey, she had been staying with her sons, Arpit (15) and Harshit (12), and brotherin-law Mukesh Pandey.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (west zone), Vikas Chandra Tripathi said, “The incident came to light around 2.30pm when Arpit and Harshit returned from school and found the house open, while one of the rooms was locked. They broke open the lock and found Rama Kanti lying in a pool of blood. A brick was found on her face. Two bricks covered in blood were also recovered from the room and have been sent for forensic examination.”
Police said the victim’s sons said a relative Shiva had threatened their mother of dire consequences when she hadn’t returned Rs 30,000 that she had owed him.
Assistant commissioner of police, Bazarkhala, Anil Yadav said Shiva confessed to his crime and taken into custody.
In a separate case, a contractual labourer, Rajkumar
(35), was found dead inside his house in Husainbadi locality. Preliminary investigations suggested that the assailant hit him multiple times on his face with a hammer, which was recovered from the room.
Additional DCP Vikas Chandra Tripathi said, “Rajkumar stayed in a rented accommodation in Thakurganj with her elder brother Raju and parents Munnilal and Laxmi. His wife Kanchan, who had strained relations with him, stays in Delhi with her two kids.”
Tripathi said the incident took place when Rajkumar and his father Munnilal were alone in the house.
“Munnilal rushed out of the house and informed neighbours that his son had sustained injuries. His statements have been contradictory,” he added. SHO, Thakurganj, Pramod Kumar Mishra said, “Munnilal has been detained and other family members are being questioned.”
