Eskom says it will cease stage 2 load shedding at 9 p.m. on Sunday after it managed to replenish its emergency diesel and water reserves.
The power utility earlier projected that rotational power cuts would continue over the weekend until 5 a.m. on Monday.
The prognosis for the week to come is that the likelihood of load shedding remains, said Eskom in a power alert on Sunday evening. In has not, however, made an official announcement of cuts for Monday yet.
The cash-strapped utility has warned of an increased likelihood of power cuts over the next 18 months as it conducts maintenance on its fleet of ageing power plants.
