MHOW/DELHI: An IAF officer, undergoing a year-long service course in Japan, has been detained by
Tokyo police after a woman filed a complaint earlier this month.
According to a source in Tokyo, the wing commander from a non-flying branch was taken into custody on February 6. His wife approached a court there for bail on February 8, which ordered her to deposit Rs 22 lakh as surety, divulged sources.
Senior sources in the ministry of external affairs said the Indian embassy in Tokyo has been handling the affair. The complaint against an Indian officer is being treated as serious by the government and the armed forces.
The effort, at present, is to complete the formalities in Japan so that the officer can be brought back to India for the matter to be investigated and action taken, the source said. “We are trying to get details of the case as it is not good to give half information. I’ve already asked the office concerned for information,” said A
Bharat Bhushan Babu, ADG (media and communication), ministry of defence.
IAF confirmed that an officer has been detained by Tokyo police, but said they don’t have much information on it. Prof
Ashok Kumar Chawla, adviser on Japan in the East Asia division of the ministry of external affairs, said he too has sought details on the case but hasn’t received them yet.
