Vadodara: A godown of a water bottling company at Makarpura GIDC was gutted as short-circuit sparked fire on Saturday early morning.
According to fire department sources, short-circuit in electrical wires in the company’s godown led to fire which engulfed the entire facility within a short time.
The company’s workers smelt the smoke when they were asleep in the area. Thankfully they evacuated the area in nick of time thus managing to save their lives.
Meanwhile, firemen from Makarpura GIDC fire station reached the spot immediately and saw the plastic bottles burning furiously.
A fire official said that the water jugs caught fire quickly as these were all made of plastic material. “We showered water but as these were made of plastic fire spread quickly. Our men could save some of the jugs, but the company claims to have suffered losses in lakhs of rupees,” the fire official said.
The company provides drinking water in these jugs to several commercial establishments in the city.
