PATNA: A 40-year-old woman teacher of a government school was shot dead by unidentified criminals in Sheohar district on Saturday.
Police said the incident took place around 9am when the deceased, Pallavi Kumari, was on way to a government middle school at Salempur under Tariyani block on a scooty. Three motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted Pallavi near Deokuli Dam and fired at her from close range.
The injured was rushed to a private hospital by locals. She, however, succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Pallavi was a resident of Sahiyari village under Riga block in Sitamarhi district.
Sheohar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) said Pallavi was transferred to Salempur from Belahi Dullah about two months ago. “Efforts are on to identify the assailants and arrest them. The reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained,” he added.
The daylight murder of the woman teacher has sent shockwaves among the local residents. “She used to go to her school on a two-wheeler from Sitamarhi, which the assailants were aware of. They were waiting for her near the Deokuli Dam. They fired at her soon after she reached the spot,” an investigating officer said quoting an eyewitness.
