After CM Ashok Gehlot rap, Kota collector gives pension order to widow

Kota collector Om Prakash Kasera
KOTA: A day after chief minister Ashok Gehlot made Kota collector Om Prakash Kasera read out the complaint of 60-year-old widow Yasmeen during a video conference, the collector on Saturday handed over the sanction order to her for pension under the government’s widow pension scheme at her residence in Anantpura. He also apologised to her for making her wait six months.
Yasmeen’s husband died on September 21, 2019 but she could not avail of the benefits of the scheme as she didn’t possess a Jan Aadhaar card.
After the death of her husband, religious restrictions kept her indoors for four months, which prevented her from fulfilling necessary formalities for pension in time.
After a complaint was lodged on the Sampark portal, district officials had to treat the case in special category. “First, I would like to apologise for making you wait for around six months for a simple issue,” said Kasera with folded hands as he handed over the pension order to her. Now, she will get Rs 700 per month.
The collector also handed over a cheque of Rs 5,000 from his personal account and assured her all possible assistance from the government.
Kasera also directed an official to arrange a contractual job for Yasmeen’s daughter in Kota Municipal Corporation. He also asked officials to add Yasmeen’s family to the Below Poverty Level (BPL) list so that they can avail of the benefits of food security and free medical schemes.
“While applying for widow pension, she did not fill up the form, which is required to be filled up at an e-mitra centre. When she was contacted, she was performing some rituals following the death of her husband. Hence, she could not step out of her house for four months. That’s why she failed to fulfill the formalities,” Kasera told TOI on Sunday.
“Treating the case in a special category, we sent the officials to Yasmeen’s residence to open her bank account and to make her Jan Adhaar card,” he added. “Issuance of Jan Adhaar card takes a certain amount of time and while the process was underway, the matter was raised during the video conference where the chief minister expressed displeasure.”
