Road caves in at Bagikhana

Vadodara: The main road caved in near Bagikhana area of the city on Saturday owing to leakage in a water pipeline.
After the incident came to light on Saturday, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has put barricades to ensure that commuters stay safe from the large pit that appeared in the middle of the busy road. Work on identifying the leakage under the road and then closing the crater is yet to begin, said corporator Balasaheb Surve.
Surve said that the area was prone to such cave ins due to leakage in drainage or water pipelines. He said even this seems to have its roots in the laying of an underground cable. “There are booth sewage and water supply pipelines under crater. A cable can be seen in it. Which pipeline was damaged will become clear only when the crater is dug up further to access the pipelines,” he said.
Surve added that students of two schools and other institites located in the area were facing many difficulties.
