PUNE: A 28-year-old motorcycle rider was killed after a speeding truck hit the bike from behind on
Undri-Pisoli road on Thursday night.
The Kondhwa police identified the deceased as Tejas Tukaram Raut from Uruli Devachi.
The truck driver sped away without giving information of the accident to the police.
Police naik Arjun Pawar on Friday suo-moto registered an FIR against the unidentified truck driver for causing the victims death due to negligence under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act.
Police said the driver of the speeding truck was heading in the direction of Undri-Pisoli when the motorcyclist overtook the vehicle near Dagade vasthi around 8.30pm.
The impact of the accident was such that the truck driver lost control over the vehicle and hit the bike. The victim was killed after he came under the front wheels of the truck, police said.
The panicked driver picked up speed and fled. Passerbyes jotted the registration number of the truck and gave it to the police for taking action.
The Sassoon general hospital in its advance post-mortem report has certified the victim’s cause of death due to multiple injuries.
Inspector (crime) Mahadeo Kumbhar from the Kondhwa police said, “The truck driver will be arrested as soon as possible and a chargesheet against him will be filed.”
