Udhagamandalam: Tiger escapes from metal snare

Udhagamandalam: A tiger, which was trapped in a metal snare in a private land at Uyilatti near Kotagiri, managed to escape from the trap, forest department officials said on Saturday.
Villagers, who saw the trapped animal, had informed the officials. However, before the officials could reach the spot, the big cat escaped. assistant conservator of forests Saravana Kumar said. “Though it managed to break the snare, the animal has suffered injuries. It is hiding in a nearby bush. A team has been deputed to monitor it.”
In the meantime, an inquiry is under way in this connection, the official told TOI. “It is a farming land, where the owner had cultivated potatoes. We have warned the owner for placing the snare. An inquiry is under way.”
The department plans to treat the injured animal after it is captured, the official added.
