AHMEDABAD: Except VIPs and VVIPs, everybody attending the Motera stadium event will have to walk 1.5km, city police officials said on Saturday. About 1.2 lakh persons will participate in the ‘Namaste President Trump’ event on February 24.
Vijay Patel, DCP (control), told media on Saturday that 28 plots have been identified for parking buses and other vehicles. “These plots are in the radius of 1.5km of the stadium and thus the guests will not have to walk much,”
he said. “We will conduct trials for vehicle routes coming from outside the city to prevent jams on February 24.”
Patel said that five major teams have been formed to manage the security of the airport reception, the Sabarmati Ashram, the road show, the event at the Motera stadium, and overall traffic. “In all, more than 11,000 police officers and personnel will be deployed,” he said.
City police officials reiterated that no person without a card bearing his/her name will be allowed inside the stadium. “In all, 120 entry points will be set up with doorframe metal detectors. Handheld metal detectors will also be used at these points,” said Patel. “Provisions have been made to admit the entire audience after frisking them in two-and-a-half to three hours.”
Officials from the NSG and other elite agencies arrived in Ahmedabad on Saturday. State DGP and othe r senior officials conducted two presentations on the overall security plan and discussed coordination, said sources.
