Punjab health minister orders revocation of letter regarding no free services for emergency cases

LUDHIANA: State health and family welfare minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has ordered immediate withdrawal of the letter issued by the directorate of health and family welfare to the districts in connection with no free services for emergency medical treatment during the first 24 hours and free treatment to girl child of one-five years of age in the Punjab Government Hospitals.
Giving further details here on Saturday, Ludhiana civil surgeon Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagga said that the said communication was inadvertently issued without any approval of government. He said that health minister had ordered immediate revocation of the communication.
He added that free treatment for girl child of one to five years of age and first 24 hours to anyone in the emergency were being provided in the government hospitals and these services shall remain free for the public as before.
