North Eastern Council (NEC) in Meghalaya holds consultative meet for tourism development

Addressing major tourism practitioners in the NE region, NEC Secretary K Moses Chalai highlighted how the council and the Centre have initiated a lot of measures for increasing the image of the region as a “great tourism destination”.

 

He stressed on taking constructive measures for increasing the number of local and international tourists. The meet highlighted the tourism sector’s potential and various problems including marketing platform requiring rectification, for helping tourism become a channel of economic growth and employment generation in the region.

 

The need for an exclusive ‘Northeast tourism policy’ was also discussed, along with professional training of tourist guides for ensuring the convenience of local and international tourists. The NEC secretary requested all stakeholders to work together to resolve issues and take the commitment forward for developing the tourism sector.
