NOIDA: Eleven
farmers, who were arrested on Tuesday after the Noida Authority lodged a complaint against them, were released from Luksar jail on Friday. After repeated protests by their family members, supporters and farmer groups, the 11 — including their leader Sukhveer Pehalwan — were released.
Hundreds of farmers have been protesting on the road outside the Authority’s office against its “repressive policies” since Monday, demanding disposal of Abadi
land, grant of 10% plots and 64.7% compensation. Notably, the farmers were on an indefinite fast inside the jail.
After his release, Sukhveer said the fight was for their “life and not politics”. He said, “Barring a few houses, they have put the Authority’s name across villages on the Abadi land since 1932. They send notices for encroachment on legitimate houses. We will reach the office on Monday and and sit on dharna again,” he said.
Additional DCP Ranvijay Singh said the farmers were released after being given bail by Surajpur court.
