01/7Your body after baby
Your body is bound to look different after giving birth as you have made a tiny human from scratch and kept it safe inside you for 9 big months. Your body begins the process of transformation as soon as you become pregnant. It goes through a major transformation throughout the 9 months and an equally major one after giving birth.
02/7Breasts
Your breast-size will most likely continue to increase because of the increased flow of blood and milk. As your body gears up to produce milk for the baby, your breast size may increase dramatically and may even cause discomfort. If you are nursing regularly, the soreness and tenderness will gradually go away. If you are not breastfeeding, you can apply warm packs, take a warm shower or put warm towels on your breasts to ease the tenderness.
03/7Your body pains everywhere
Thanks to all the pushing you have done during delivery, it is not uncommon for the new mother to feel exhausted to her bones. While the post-delivery pain should be getting better after a few days, it is important to rest as much as you can. This is why it is important to catch some shut-eye whenever the little one sleeps and ask your friends and family for help. You can also reserve the meet and greet with the newborn after a few days when you are better rested.
04/7Vaginal discharge
This one should come as no surprise. For up to six weeks after giving birth, you can expect vaginal discharge known as lochia which has blood, mucus and uterine tissue. Remember that this flow can be heavy, so it is advisable to use pads to keep the discomfort at bay. The amount of discharge will get lighter with every passing day.
05/7Stinging pee
For the first few weeks after giving birth, it is normal to feel a burning sensation when you are peeing. Moreover, a lot of new mothers also suffer from urinary and faecal incontinence. Since your pelvic floor’s muscles and ligaments are weakened after the delivery, urine may leak out when your laughing, sneezing or exercising. There are several pelvic floor muscle exercises that can help in strengthening the muscles again and can help in stopping incontinence.
06/7Constipation
It is pretty normal to feel constipated during pregnancy. Yes, you read that right. This happens because there is an increase in progesterone hormone during pregnancy which leads to slower digestion. As a result, it is not uncommon for women to suffer from constipation after childbirth as well. It is very likely that the problem will resolve on its own after a few days, but it is important that you eat fibre rich food and drink plenty of water.
07/7Legs
It is also advisable to invest in compression socks and leggings to battle varicose veins and spider veins after giving birth.
