Double murder case: Raigarh police detains Sai’s driver

Jharsuguda: The Raigarh police on Friday night picked up the driver of arrested former Congress MLA Anup Sai for questioning in connection with the 2016 murder of Kalpana Das (35) and her 14-year-old daughter Pravati.
The driver, Bardhan Toppo, was picked up from his residence at Bagarachaka village, under Rajpur panchayat of Brajrajnagar, late on Friday night.
Addressing the media, Raigarh SP Santosh Singh said Sai had named his driver during interrogation. “We are suspecting the involvement of some more people in this case,” the SP had said on Friday.
However, in a video circulating in social media, Toppo is seen saying, “I came to know from various news outlet that my name has been taken by Anup Sai during interrogation in connection with a double murder case. But I am innocent and I am not at all involved in the crime. Some local people advised me to run away, but I didn’t flee. If I have not committed any crime, then why should I run away? I am not afraid and I want the district administration to help me.”
Meanwhile, BJP Mahila Morcha burnt the effigy of Sai in Gandhi Chowk and demanded capital punishment for the crime. “It’s a heinous crime committed by a former MLA for which we demand strict punishment,” said BJP leader Radharani Panda, a former legislator from Brajrajnagar.
