HYDERABAD: A former Ranji trophy cricketer, who conned the CMD of a private company by impersonating as personal assistant of Andhra Pradesh minister for IT and municipal administration K Taraka Rama Rao, was arrested by Central Crime Station (CCS) sleuths on Saturday.
Joint commissioner of police (CCS) Avinash Mohanty said that the accused Budumuru Nagaraju introduced himself as Tirupati, a PA to KTR, when he contacted CMD of a company.
The accused told the victim that one Budumuru Nagaraju, a cricket player from Andhra Pradesh was selected for Under 25 World Cup in England besides getting selected for a franchisee in IPL, was looking for sponsorship.
The accused conned the victim by making him believe that if his company sponsored Nagaraju, their company’s logo could be printed on the kit used by the player and it would be handed over to Nagaraju by KTR.
Believing it to be true, the victim transferred Rs 3.30 lakh to the bank account of the accused. Later, receiving no response from the accused, the victim realised that he was conned and lodged a complaint.
The accused was arrested through the phone he used to call the victim, besides the bank account details.
During the investigation, police came to know that he was a repeat offender and was earlier arrested for conning different people. Last year, Nagaraju was accused of impersonating BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad and was then arrested by AP police.
