From saris to glamorous red carpet outfits, celebrities incorporated meaningful messages in their outfits over the past week
When Sonam Kapoor Ahuja wears a sari, you don’t expect it to be an ordinary drape. Earlier this week, Kapoor Ahuja attended the launch of Bulgari’s Jannah jewellery collection in Abu Dhabi, dressed in a custom-made ivory chiffon sari by Manish Malhotra and Bulgari high jewellery. But she contemporised the look with a one-of-a-kind blouse—featuring a Juliet sleeve on one side, and a cap sleeve on the other. Madhuri Dixit Nene and Neena Gupta too, picked light-weight drapes for events this week. Dixit Nene wore a multi-coloured paisley print chiffon sari, while Gupta picked an earthy ensemble from her daughter’s collection, Masaba X Rhea, that was covered in a print derived from old handwritten letters. On the other hand, a bold printed pantsuit won Karisma Kapoor’s favour for an event in Mumbai.
Meanwhile in LA, the 2020 Oscars took place on February 10, and many Hollywood actors took the red carpet by storm. Natalie Portman’s custom-made Dior gown caught everybody’s attention. Her cape was embroidered with names of female directors whose work was overlooked by the Academy this year. Stars like Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan championed sustainable dressing on the red carpet with their vintage and low-impact gowns respectively. Actor Amber Valletta wore a sustainable Alexander McQueen dress, made from the atelier’s upcycled materials, for Maison de Mode’s Sustainable Style Awards 2020.

In case you missed it, Miley Cyrus wore vintage Dior lace-up pants from 17 years ago on her way to fashion week in New York, and Rihanna reinvented the hoodie with a yellow slip-dress hybrid from Fenty’s latest drop. Blake Lively also made a strong case to bring back the vest with a sharp outfit.
