MSU faculty to take ‘on the spot’ action on copycats

Vadodara: In a policy decision, M S University will give instant justice to ‘copy cats’ from now.
Deciding to decentralize the current system where the ‘cheaters’ or students who are caught copying in exams are punished on case to case basis by the university level unfair means committee, the university’s syndicate members have decided that cases of small-time offenders should be dealt by the faculty itself.
In the earlier system, many students had to wait for months together as the appointed committee handles all such cases in bulk and submits its recommendations for approval from the university’s syndicate body.
“The university has taken this decision on a trial basis so that students who are caught in small time offences don’t end up waiting for months till the time university-level committee arrives at a conclusion,” said MSU vice-chancellor professor Parimal Vyas.
The faculties will be asked to appoint their own observers and senior teachers to act upon such cases. “The idea is to take on the spot decisions.
Once, exams of students get over, the faculty level panel itself will decide on the type of punishment that the student who is caught cheating will undergo,” said Vyas.
While the role of the unfair means committee will decrease, the committee will still exist. “If the faculties come across any severe case of exam-related offence, such cases based on their severity will be reported to the committee,” said Vyas.
