The Supreme Court on Friday issued a show-cause notice to telecom companies and their directors directing them to explain why contempt proceedings shouldn't be initiated against them for not complying with its order to pay adjusted gross revenue (AGR) of Rs 1.47 lakh crore to the department of telecommunications (DoT). The apex court asked the operators to deposit the amount by March 17. The Centre was also told to immediately withdraw an order passed by its desk officer for not taking coercive action against telecom companies.
