CHANDIGARH: As many as 714 cops are being deployed in the city to keep a close eye on the hooliganism on Valentine's Day. Three DSPs, 24 inspectors/SHOs and 687 cops will be on ground on Friday.
According to cops, youngsters at times indulge in dangerous driving, use of pressure horns and eve teasing on Valentine's Day mainly in and around Panjab University (PU) campus, markets of sectors 8,9,10, 11, 15, 16, 17 and 22 and also girls colleges, PGs and hostels. To avoid such incidents, special deployment of women cops in plain clothes are being made near educational institutes and girls PG in Chandigarh.
Besides, PCR vans patrolling is being intensified in the city, especially around girl's colleges, schools, hostels, parks, busy markets and malls. Woman cops in civil are also being deployed in Rose Garden, 'gehri' route and malls to tab eve teasers.
Area from sectors 11/12 road to Sector 10 market is being earmarked as ;imited vehicle zone to curb hooliganism and rash driving. Cops have also warned traffic violators and decided to set up as many as 40 internal nakas from 4pm to 10pm to rein in violations like using pressure horns, rash driving and modified silencer on motorcycles.
This time the UT police will lay 12 special nakas around pubs and bars in sectors 26 and 7 till early morning to restrain hooliganism and brawl incidents.
