Undertrials banned from meeting kin, friends in court complex

Ludhiana: The Ludhiana police commissioner Rakesh Agrawal has banned undertrials from meeting their the relatives and friends in the court complex. As per the order, according to sources, it has been found that when any prisoner is brought to the court complex for hearing, they meet their friends, family, and relatives very often, and their family members give them eatables too. Sometimes, they also talk to their family members on the mobile phones of police officials.
The order said things and eatables given to prisoners by their family members are recovered during their checking before going back to jail. “It is clear that this type of facility to prisoners can result in dangerous situation in the prison, and it presents a bad picture of police among the common public,” read the order.
The order further said that to take care of these kind of situations, it is being ordered that in future, no prisoner would be allowed to meet their family members or friends, inside or outside the court complex, and their family members too should not be allowed to hand over anything to them.
The police chief further said, “A police official on duty will not be allowed to help the prisoner talk to any friend or family member by calling them from their mobile phones.” The order stated that if any such kind of negligence was witnessed in the future, not only would action be taken against the police officials accompanying the prisoners, but also against the police officer on duty as well as the ASP.
