Mentally unstable woman ends life on tracks in Jaipur

JAIPUR: A 52-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at the Imli Phatak in the city on Thursday morning. According to initial investigation, the woman was mentally unstable and was undergoing treatment for the same.
The woman was identified as Munni Devi and the incident happened around 8 am on Thursday. “The woman left her house without informing anyone and started walking on the railway track at Imli Phatak. People called out to her when they saw an incoming train but Munni Devi did not pay heed and continued walking on the track. After some distance she sat down on the track and was hit by the train. Since the train was at high speed, no one could put themselves in harm’s way to physically remove the woman from the tracks,” said an official of Jyoti Nagar police station.
Initial investigation suggested that Munni Devi was suffering from some kind of mental ailment and the official added, “We have asked her family to give us medical details including the treatment which she was undergoing to ascertain if she was really unwell or there was some other reason that she decided to end her life. We are also questioning her husband further to find more details in the case.” Munni Devi was hit on the head by the train leading to her instant death. According to officials she and her family had been staying in Jaipur for last six years.
