Three persons were reportedly injured in a crude bomb explosion in Lucknow court at Wazeerganj police station area on Thursday afternoon. Two more crude (sutli) bombs were also recovered from the spot

The incident took place in the Chief Judicial Magistrate court where Sanjeev Lodhi, joint secretary of the Lucknow bar association, claimed that he was the target. The explosion took place near the district magistrate’s office and barely a kilometre from the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha building.

Sources in the police said that initial reports suggested personal enmity as reason behind the attack.

“On Thursday afternoon, we received information about low intensity blasts at Lucknow airport. The police teams which rushed there found that the explosion was caused by crude bombs. The reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained and we are investigating the matter. The injured are not serious and need primary medical attention,” a police officer said.

Station house officer (SHO) of Wazeerganj police station Deepak Dubey said one person suffered an injury in his leg.

Soon after the incident, scores of angry lawyers crowded the area, demanding protection.

Sources confirmed that Lodhi also demanded security for himself after the blast.

All senior police officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Law and Order, Naveen Arora, are present at the spot.
