PUNE: The
Pune Municipal Corporation (
PMC) recently held a joint meeting with city police department and regional transport office (RTO) to discuss various proposals pertaining to traffic management with an aim to streamline vehicular movement on the city roads and bring down traffic chaos.
The meeting was attended by mayor
Muralidhar Mohol, deputy mayor
Saraswati Shindge, municipal chief Shekhar Gaikwad, city police commissioner
K Venkatesham and officials from RTO.
Mayor said that the civic body was chalking out plans along with city police to minimize traffic chaos and clear the encroachments from footpaths to provide adequate space for walkers.
The authorities identified the chowks and junctions vulnerable to traffic jams. Mohol said that every chowk will have a separate plan to deal with challenges being faced by walkers and motorists. The civic administration will initiate a drive to remove the encroachments from these chowks, he said.
Mohol said that the PMC and city police department will work together to synchronize traffic signals at bigger chowks to maintain flow of traffic at adequate speed during rush hours. He added that the authorities would also keep check on entry of private luxury buses and good trucks during rush hours. These vehicles would be allowed on city roads only during stipulated time, Mohol added.
