Surat: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested three persons on the charges of pelting stones on the coaches of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Double decker train between Gothangam and Kosad station near Kosamba on Thursday.
Official sources said the RPF unit in Kosamba on Thursday received information regarding stone pelting on four coaches of the double decker train near Kosamba. A team rushed to the site and kept a watch.
The RPF sleuths found three people sitting at the private siding loop line at Anjani canal near Kosad station. When the sleuths approached them, the trio attempted to run away and started pelting stones on the RPF staff. However, after about half-an-hour long ordeal, the trio were nabbed by the RPF sleuths.
The accused have been identified as Babu Nayak (24), Chitrasan Damo Dakuaa (26) and Prakash Batera (39) — all residents of Anjani canal and hailing from Ganjam district in Odisha.
Sub-inspector protection force (SIPF), Kosamba division, Ashish Tewari told TOI, “The accused are working in the Anjani factories located in Kosad and they had come to the Hazira loop line for consuming country made liquor. When the Ahmedabad-Mumbai double decker train passed from the downline from Surat to Vadodara, the trio pelted stones just for entertainment and claimed they did not intent to hurt the passengers.”
According to Tewari, the trio were arrested under section 154, 146, 145(b) and 147 of the Railway Act for damaging the railway property. They were produced before the judicial magistrate of railway court at Surat for legal procedure on Thursday.
