JAIPUR: The Jaipur rural police have arrested 27 persons involved in a prostitution racket in Jamwa Ramgarh police station area. Ten men and 17 women have been arrested. They all are from Rajasthan and were running the racket in houses on NH-148. The policemen posed as customers and once the prostitution racket was confirmed, raided the houses.
The accused were arrested from Raisar police station area by a team of around 50 police personnel. SP Jaipur rural, Shankar Dutt Sharma said, “For last six months, we have been running an operation to curb all criminal activities on the highways. We received information that there was a sex racket operating in our jurisdiction and formed a team to get to the bottom of the matter.”
The arrested persons are from neighbouring districts including Sawai Madhopur, Karauli, Alwar and others. They all are aged between 20 to 30 years. “After receiving information, we sent few of our personnel to the place where prostitution was happening. They posed as clients and once money exchanged hands for a woman sex worker, we raided the houses and arrested all those who were present at the time of the raid,” added the SP. According to officials, the sex workers charged around Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 per client and cops are also looking for more people involved in the racket.
Elaborating further, the official added, “This is one of the biggest rackets that we have uncovered in over a year and there are high chances that more people are involved in it. We are investigating further to find how the women were brought into prostitution. There is a network working here through which the women are brought here. Money is the only motivation and most likely all of them are from poor families.”
The arrested persons have been booked under the relevant sections of IPC.
