BENGALURU: Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC), which manages KSR Bengaluru City railway station, will soon come up with 'drop and go' lanes.
"IRSDC is developing 'Drop and Go' lanes with no charges for initial five to 15 minutes depending on locations so that access to station is made congestion free," said a statement released on Wednesday. The move came after rising complaints over reduced grace period and increased parking charges.
Earlier, private vehicles exceeding a seven-minute grace period at the station had to pay a parking fee. This means cabs and other private vehicles will now get a grace period of up to 15 minutes to drop passengers at station.
"IRSDC is working to rationalise the rates for parking at KSR Bengaluru railway station to promote short term parking and discourage long term parking through higher parking fee. This has been done with a clear intention of letting passengers find a parking place easily at the station as more than 90% of the users of parking facility are requiring parking only for short term use," it adds.
Further, it said: "The existing issues concerning public at KSR Bengaluru railway station including that of the parking rates will be resolved within this week," it adds. This means parking rates are likely to get slashed.
For four-wheelers, the fee is Rs 25 for the first two hours and Rs 20 for every additional hour. For two-wheelers, it is Rs 12 for the first two hours and Rs 10 for every subsequent hour. Monthly passes for four-wheelers and two-wheelers cost Rs 3,000 and Rs 1,000, respectively. Earlier, minimum parking fee for two-wheelers was Rs 10 and maximum Rs 50. For cars, it was Rs 20 and Rs 300. Now, the fee for a two-wheeler for 24 hours is Rs 232, which is more than the Bengaluru-Mysuru train fare.
