CHENNAI: Actor Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) on Thursday urged the Tamil Nadu government to reveal an action plan -- in the state budget to be presented on Friday -- to implement its decision to declare eight Cauvery delta districts as a protected agriculture zone.
“On May 19, 2018, the MNM passed a resolution, in a farmers’ conference, to notify the Cauvery delta region as a protected agriculture zone. We appreciate that the same has been now announced by the chief minister. The farmers are looking forward to the steps the state government will take to make it a law,” MNM vice-president R Mahendran said in a statement.
“This happens to be last full budget of the present AIADMK government. The state government should utilise the budget session to reveal an action plan to implement its intent to make Cauvery delta region as a protected agriculture zone. If not, then it will remain only a mere announcement,” Mahendran said.
