Andhra Pradesh: Man posing as police officer dupes SI of Rs 4 lakh, held

SRIKAKULAM: Police on Thursday arrested a man on Srikakulam flyover in Andhra Pradesh for allegedly posing as cops and duping a sub-inspector of Rs 4 lakh.
The cops have seized one handbag, one small paper containing the particulars of targeted persons, a small handbook contains names and phone numbers of targeted persons and Rs 50,000 in cash.
The 37-year-old man posed as a police officer and cheated the sub-inspector, who is on vacancy reserve (VR), by promising him to get a good posting.
He took Rs 4 lakh from the sub-inspector from Srikakulam for posting. Later, the SI realised that he was cheated by the accused and lodged a complaint with the cops, who nabbed the accused on Wednesday. The cops found that he had cheated many government servants to the tune of Rs 70 lakh.
Around 18 non-bailable warrants (NBW cases) were pending against the habitual offender Rachapalli Srinu alias Mangali Srinu of Nallamda Mandal in Anantapuram district. Most of the NBWs are pending against him in the jurisdiction of Rayalaseema districts and also Bengaluru in Karnataka.
Mangali Srinu has involved in cheating of a teacher at Ragolu and two armed reserve constables - Guntur and Vijayawada - before Srikakulam SI.
Disclosing the details to the media persons, the Srikakulam SP Ammireddy said that the accused Mangali Srinu initially committed snatchings and robberies and later changed his modus operandi by targeting government servants involving in the ACB cases or suspended officers.
Mangali used to negotiate with them and also secure account numbers of others on a commission basis, get deposit amounts through Manappuram gold finance company. He steals SIM cards and use them for communication with targeted government servants and threw them into the water after his task was completed.
The SP said that the accused involved in total 24 cases in which 18 were chain snatching and robberies. He cheated five police personnel and one civilian. He had plans to cheat 10 police personnel at various districts in AP and Telangana, besides few civilians in Makkuva village and also a teacher in East Godavari. Cops found these details in a handbook seized from his possession.
