Tamil Nadu: 620kg ganja seized, 5 smugglers held

NAGAPATTINAM: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) busted a drug smuggling bid near Kodiyakkadu in Nagapattinam district and seized 620kg of ganja worth several lakh rupees on Wednesday night. Police said the drugs were to be smuggled to Sri Lanka.
S Iyappan, 35, of Kodiyakadu, M Selvaraj, 54, of Vedaranyam, R Paramanantham, 35, from Kodiyakarai, S Ramanan, 40, and G Thavamani, 37, of Thiruvottiyur in Chennai, were arrested in connection and a container and two cars were recovered.
Based on a tip, NCB sleuths from Madurai followed the container vehicle heading towards Nagapattinam via Madurai. While one of the accused drove the vehicle, the other four followed in two cars. The NCB team intercepted when the accused halted their vehicles in Kodiyakkadu. Further investigations are on.
