LUCKNOW: A 30-year-old passenger trying to sneak in 50
gold biscuits, worth Rs 2.46 crore, was arrested from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport at Amausi on Wednesday.
Sudhir Kumar, a native of Lucknow, arrived from Dubai on Air India flight IX 194 that landed at 1.10pm. Deputy commissioner, customs, CCSI Airport, Niharika Lakha, said security officers got suspicious because he seemed to be in “unusual hurry”. “When quizzed, Kumar fumbled for an answer. He was frisked and we found his suitcase very heavy. We opened it and found gold biscuits concealed in an inside pocket, which was stitched up,” Lakha said.
During interrogation, Kumar revealed he went to Dubai 45 days ago to work as a tailor. He failed to get a job and was roped in by a gang of smugglers to work for them. Lakha said Kumar was booked under Customs Act, 1962, and his antecedents would be investigated.
