VIJAYAWADA: A round-table meet of Left parties and peoples’ organisations decided to hold state-wide protest at district collectorates on February 17, seeking implementation of the bifurcation promises. The speakers condemned the indifferent attitude of the state and central governments in fulfilling the promises made to the people at the time of the bifurcation in 2014.
Among the issues, which were taken up at the meet, were denial of special category status, promised in Parliament at the time of bifurcation and failure of the Centre to help with the revenue deficit, which was to the tune of Rs 22,948 crore. They said the government has washed off its hands from the issue by paying a mere Rs 3,979 crore.
