Villagers in Kunha village of Sirmaur District of Himachal Pradesh face a harrowing time when they have to take a sick person to hospital. The nearest motorable road is at a distance of about 8-10 kilometers and villagers have to carry the sick and the infirm over kuchha mountainous pathways involving steep climbs. The sick person is made to lie on a blanket that is wrapped around the person and then tied to a pole. The pole is then carried by two or more people. Apart from being a tough task, this also means a severe delay in taking the critically ill to hospital. The villagers say that successive state governments have ignored their demand for a pucca road. They have now appealed to the government that they must get road connectivity.
