JODHPUR: Seven thousand litres of
spurious ghee were seized by the team of chief medical & health office on Thursday from a
godown in Mandor Krishi Mandi here. The
ghee was being sold under two brand names.
CMHO Balwant Manda said that an information was received that Subhash Trading Company at Mandor Krishi Mandi has been dealing with spurious ghee.
“Our team raided the dealer and found a huge storage of packed ghee in the godown of the company,” said Manda adding that the stock was seized and samples were taken for checking the quality. On checking, the ghee was found to be of inferior quality after which a case against the owner was registered.
Manda said that entire material had been supplied from Delhi and the billing was being done at a meagre Rs 200-250 per kg.
The company had been selling this ghee under the brand names of Vanshaj and Mehak and was being sold as pure deshi ghee.
Considering the rampant adulteration and manufacturing of spurious dairy products, the CMHO has been constantly keeping a watch on this illicit trade.
“We had seized 2,798 kg of spurious milk cake from a unit in city area last month, where chemicals had openly been used by the manufacturing the material,” said Manda.
Department had also seized 1000 kg of spices from the same mandi, which also had turned out to be spurious material on checking.
These spices, which included turmeric, chili powder and coriander powder etc. was manufactured and packed at a unit in Beawar and being supplied in entire state.
