Mundhe stops all new Nagpur Municipal Corporation tenders

NAGPUR: With Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC)reeling under a severe financial crisis, municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe admitted in the special general body meeting that he had restricted the civic administration from floating new tenders for development works till the condition improves.
"I have also given instructions to stop all works whether work orders were issued or not," said Mundhe.
Replying to a query raised by former mayor and BJP corporator Pravin Datke, the civic chief informed that NMC's financial condition is not good. "NMC is not paying income tax, provident fund contribution though it is deducting from employees' salaries. Besides, NMC is yet to pay outstanding of Rs 400 crore," said Mundhe, informing the house of taking the decision to bring financial discipline.
Following demand from senior BJP corporator Dayashankar Tiwari, mayor Sandip Joshi directed the administration to table the financial condition of the NMC in next general body meeting.
