620kg of ganja seized in Tamil Nadu, five arrested

The NCB found 620kg of ganja stuffed in 312 bundles.
NAGAPATTINAM: The Narcotics Control Bureau busted a drugs smuggling racket with the arrest of five men and the seizure of 620kg of ganja, worth several lakhs of rupees, from them near Kodiyakkadu in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday night. The ganja was meant to be smuggled to Sri Lanka.
The accused have been identified as S Iyappan, 35, of Kodiyakadu, M Selvaraj, 54, of Vedaranyam, R Paramanantham, 35, of Kodiyakarai, S Ramanan, 40, and G Thavamani, 37, of Thiruvottiyur in Chennai. The NCB recovered a container truck, a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) and a car from the accused. Four of the accused followed the container truck in the MUV and the car. The ganja was being smuggled in the container truck.
On a tip-off, sleuths from NCB from Madurai, headed by inspector Saravanan, followed the container truck heading towards Nagapattinam via Madurai. The NCB team intercepted the truck at Ayakaranpulam in Nagapattinam district.
The team found 620kg of ganja stuffed in 312 bundles in the container. The accused had planned to stock the drugs at a house owned by Karuthapandiyan in Kodiyakkadu.
The Vaimedu police registered a case.
