Maharashtra: Three, including woman doctor, injured in acid attack

NAGPUR: In an unfortunate incident, a woman doctor from Government medical college and hospital (GMCH), her patient and another teenager were injured after being attacked by acid by a deranged man at Pehlepar ward of Saoner tehsil of Nagpur district on Thursday.
The woman doctor, aged 29, was part of the team from the GMCH which had gone to Saoner, around 40km away from Nagpur, for health check up of under-privileged women as a part of state government driven scheme. The team had been camping at Saoner for last couple of days.
The were injured after the deranged man, Nilesh Kanhere, now in police custody, hurled a diluted form of acid solution towards them. The acid, which was identified as the one used for cleaning toilet, injured the women doctor after some of it got splashed near them.
As the women was rushed to a local hospital, an angry crowd thrashed the deranged man. He was later rescued by the local police in Saoner. Police had to also quell the anger of the local population and bring the situation under control.
This is the second acid attack incident in Vidarbha after an engineering student from Gondia had suffered such injuries. Two men, known to the acid survivor, had thrown acid on her. Senior PI Ashok Koli of Saoner police station said the cops are interrogating the accused.
