BENGALURU:
Cubbon Park will get a
smog tower that will purify air in the lung space, surrounded as it is by Queens Road, Rajbhavan Road, Kasturba Road and Ambedkar Veedhi. This is part of the second phase developing the park under the Smart City project.
The vertical smog tower will house a 'breathing tower', designed to purify air by using plants. The tower will have four facades, three of which will be fitted with plants and the fourth will have an air quality monitoring system, a large screen display and charging ports for mobile phones.
A charging station for electric bikes will be set up near the smog tower, horticulture department officials said.
Solar panels will be installed on the roof of the smog tower. The fourth facade will be made available for advertisements to raise funds for future initiatives at the park.
A sensory park, sound garden and an ayurvedic garden will also come up at the green space as part of the project, along with nature and heritage trails. Round grey sandstones, cobble stones and reflexology pebbles will be used to build the trails. While the lotus and lily ponds will be revived, officials have also planned to add a
waterfall to the lotus pond. Additionally, three playing zones for children and a senior citizen's area will be constructed.
