Beware of fake dating platforms: Police

Visakhapatnam: This year’s run up to the Valentine’s Day saw cybercriminals creating fake dating websites in a bid to defraud people. Many youngsters in the city reported having received messages and e-mails asking them to subscribe to online dating platforms. Cybercrime police say that fraudsters have a field week in the run up to the day celebrating love and romance targeting lonely singles.
N Ravi Kumar, sub-inspector of cybercrime police informed, “A few days ago, a software professional from the city was duped of Rs 18 lakh on a fake dating platform.”
V Gopinath, inspector of cybercrime police station said that a Kolkata-based fake online dating platform duped 15 people from Visakhapatnam region.
