LUDHIANA: An NRI student of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) died after being crushed by “speeding” bus near Verka milk plant on Ferozepur road on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as 23-year-old Meena Sharma of Sector 32, Chandigarh road, a second year student of veterinary sciences at the university whose family lives in Surrey of Canada.
Police officials said that Meena was living in the GADVASU hostel across the Sidhwan canal towards Ferozepur road for last one and half years while pursuing her degree. They added that on Thursday morning around 9am she left her hostel on scooty towards the college on the other side of the bridge.
Cops said that near a restaurant on Ferozepur road, a speeding bus coming from Mullanpur side hit her scooty from behind. Meena fell on the road with serious injuries after which onlookers, who gathered at the accident spot, rushed her to a private hospital where doctors declared her brought dead, they added.
