The 21st edition of the LED Expo was successfully held in New Delhi from November 14-16. Often described as India’s most influential platform to source and trade lighting technologies, the exposition featured nearly 400 exhibitors from nine countries, several product launches and a future zone. The show was bigger in terms of the exhibition space and international participation with 18 and 25 per cent growth registered over the previous edition. Moreover, this time the event also witnessed a 14 percent surge in terms of exhibitors. The strategic merger of Light India and LED Expo for the 2020 edition was also announced on the occasion. The event was inaugurated by SK Marwaha, Senior Director, Govt of India, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Talking about the development of LED lights in Delhi and the show, Marwaha said, “In the course of four years, LED production in India has grown from Rs 21 billion to Rs 130 billion in 2019. Along with the development of other technologies, the manufacturing of LED lights has been the major focus for ‘Make in India’ initiative. Various incentive schemes in the country have given a major boost to the domestic market, making ‘made-in-India’ products globally competent. Today, about 35-40 per cent LED lights and technologies are manufactured in India.” Also sharing his views on the latest edition, Raj Manek, Executive Director & Board Member, Messe Frankfurt Asia Holding Ltd, observed, “As trade fair organisers, we have diligently aimed to be in line with the government’s vision on accelerating the adoption of the revolutionary technology called LED lights. Lauded to be a premium show, LED Expo has entrenched its position as a platform to source and trade top-quality lighting technologies elevating the LED market in India.” RECORD GROWTH EXPECTED IN LIGHTING MARKET The inauguration was followed by the unveiling of a special report by advisory and research firm, 6W Research. Speaking on the occasion, Rajat Kharbanda, Client Partner, 6Wresearch pointed out, “LED lighting and fixture market in India is anticipated to touch $7.7 billion by 2025, registering a CAGR of 23.6 per cent during 2019-25. With the growing acceptance of the smart lighting and control market in India, the market would record key growth in the next six years.” Talking about the trends in the industry he added, “The penetration of IoT in the lighting industry is benefiting the overall demand for energy-efficient smart lighting in the country. Connected lights are emerging as a new trend in the Indian market, which will be prevalent more in indoor lighting.” With an array of brands exhibiting cutting-edge technologies and product launches, business visitors experienced the widest range of products covering the LED industry value chain. Companies such as Tata Communications, Osram Opto Semiconductor, MLS India, Rabyte Technologies, Lumenstech, Millennium Semiconductor amongst others displayed their top-of-the-line energy-efficient LED products. Dedicated areas like the Future Zone provided sneak-peak into lighting technologies that are likely to enter the market soon. The exposition attracted 161 companies from India as well as China, Finland, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the UAE. The state of Karnataka leveraged the event to promote its policy on cluster development of the LED lighting industry. Messe Frankfurt India, the organisers of LED Expo and Light India – which is organised in association with ELCOMA, the apex body of the lighting industry – announced the merger of the Delhi editions of the two trade shows. The strategic move will create the biggest platform for the business of lighting in the country, titled ‘Light + LED Expo India 2020’.
