THANJAVUR: Three metal
idols and some silver utensils have been stolen from Srinivasa Perumal
temple at
Thirupurambiyam in
Thanjavur district of
Tamil Nadu.
The theft came to light on Tuesday evening when priest Parangusam opened the temple to perform puja. He noticed that three idols (one Perumal idol and two Thayaar idols) and silver puja utensils (all of them were kept in an almirah) were missing.
The priest informed temple trustees. One of the trustees alerted the Swamimalai police, who rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry.
The police noticed that three locks of a rear side door were broken. The miscreants had scaled the compound wall using a ladder, the police said.
The police registered a case.
