PUNE: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) failed to achieve the target of generating Rs 2 crore revenue on Bus Day which was observed on Monday. However, the administration claims that the number of passengers increased by at least one lakh.

According to a PMPML official, “The PMPML has generated the revenue of Rs 1.83 crore. As many as 12 lakh passengers travelled on this day. Our efforts are being appreciated by providing a maximum number of buses. However, we’re very close to achieving the target.”

In the last two years, the PMPML has added around 700 buses to their fleet. Also, they have increased more drivers and conductors.

As per information, the PMPML had expected to generate Rs 1.50 crore after the sale of tickets and Rs 50 lakh from pass holders on the Bus Day. But the actual figure is Rs 1.44 crore which was generated after the sale of tickets and Rs 38 lakh generated by pass holders.

The figure is also less compared with the revenue generated last month. Last month, it had generated Rs 1.89 crore with fewer buses roads compared to Bus Day.

“We had decided to ply 1,700 buses on Monday. But actually, we ran 1,833 buses. As the highest number of the buses were on the roads the commuters preferred to travel by our buses,” said PMPML Travel Manager Anant Waghmare.
