Retired Tangedco official arrested in Chennai for cheating man

CHENNAI: The Chintadripet police on Wednesday arrested a retired Tangedco auditor for cheating a man of Rs 22.6 lakh by promising to get a job for his son.
P Devarajan, 59, of Salem was an auditor with Tangedco. He met Shanmugam of Vellore in 2014. Shanmugam told Devarajan that his son had completed an engineering degree and did not have a job.
Devarajan offered to get him a job in Tangedco and received Rs 22.6 lakh on different occasions, between 2014 and 2019. However, since Devarajan did not fulfil his promise, Shanmugam lodged a complaint with the Chintadaripet police as most of the transactions had taken place in their jurisdiction.
Inspector Murugesan registered a case and asked Devarajan to reimburse the money within three months. However, since Devarajan failed to do so, he was arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
