Force Motors is one of the most underrated vehicle manufacturers in the country primarily because their offerings are in the commercial vehicle space and in the rural market. Having said that, the one product that they do make for enthusiasts is the Gurkha and over the years it is a vehicle that has not only proved its pedigree as an able off roader but has also built quite a cult following.
Force Motors took the Gurkha legacy forward with the Rainforest Challenge version that was purpose-built for the competition and as with any product, the company has constantly worked at improving it on all fronts.
To showcase just how far you can go with a Gurkha, Force Motors had on display an extreme version that boasted of a massive lift kit, humungous tyres, an exterior tubular frame to support the top carriage, two fuel canisters at the rear, projector lights, LED DRLs, a winch, a snorkel, a revised front bumper and a bulbar. This machine stood almost 8 feet tall and towered over all those who walked past, but one thing was certain that their eyes were glued to it the entire time! Sadly, this is only a show vehicle and it is highly unlikely that Force Motors will offer this in their dealerships, but I guess if you really wanted one, they could make it for you! The best way to test that theory is to ask MS Dhoni to order one. After all his love for SUVs knows no bounds and this would be a prize piece in his collection don’t you think?
Incidentally, Force Motors also had on display the updated BS6 Gurkha finished in a metallic orange paint. The new Gurkha gets a new interior dash layout as well and definitely looks way better than before. Ergonomics are said to have been improved as have the overall looks of the vehicle. It surprisingly looks very close to a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen now thanks to the treatment of the headlights and turn indicators. Powering this variant is a 2.6 litre CRD diesel engine that delivers 88 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque. The Gurkha is offered with a robust 4-wheel drive system as well.
