Elderly couple from Kolkata suffers burn injuries in Chennai

CHENNAI: An elderly couple from Kolkata staying in an apartment at Thousand Lights sustained serious burn injuries on Tuesday after a fire spread from a stove due to a leakage of gas. Both were admitted to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.
Sunil Sardar and his wife, Krishna Sardar, had come tom Chennai for treatment, police said. They took an apartment on rent at Thousand Lights and were staying there.
On Tuesday, when Krishna tried to light a gas stove, a fire broke out due to gas leakage on the tube. The fire caught her. Seeing his wife on flames, Sunil tried to save her and caught fire. Hearing their cries, people in the vicinity came to their rescue.
The couple were sent to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.
The Thousand Lights police were investigating.
