Valentine's Day campaign has tried to ambushMcDonald's . - The latest ad tells people about how
Ronald McDonald has been lonely for the longest time and people should help him to get rid of his loneliness. Burger King has promised burgers for every selfie that is posted along with the mascot.
Burger King is known the world over for coming up with really innovative, extremely cheeky campaigns, many of which have often targeted rival brand, McDonald’s. They did something similar today, two days ahead of Valentine’s Day.
Their latest spot takes on McDonald’s very recognizable mascot, Ronald McDonald (while never really showing the mascot in its entirety, or taking the brand's name). The video simply shows the mascot in different places, sitting alone, cutting a really sorry figure. The music in the background is one full of pathos. And the text on the screen reads, ‘It sucks to be lonely. Especially on Valentine’s Day.’ The video then asks people to upload a selfie with him.
Burger King tweeted the video saying, “We've found the loneliest man in the world. And he's been right in front of us the whole time. Go ahead give him company, take a picture or two, tag @burgerkingindia and we'll give you a free Whopper this Valentine's Day. #LonelyNoMore”
Now we will have to wait and watch as to how people react to this, but if this isn’t competitive marketing at its best, what is? We can’t wait to see how McDonald’s reacts to this.
