Drunk man arrested for verbally abusing cop in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police arrested a 34-year-old man after he entered a police station in an inebriated state and verbally abused a special sub-inspector on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as S Bethukumar of Ondipudur. He is a labourer.
On Tuesday morning, the Kattoor police arrested Bethukumar for disturbing traffic flow and creating inconvenience to the public in an inebriated state. He was booked for breaching public peace and was released in station bail.
A few hours later, the returned to the police station and verbally abused special sub-inspector G Mahalingam for arresting him.
Despite receiving multiple warnings to leave the station, he continued to threaten the officer.
Based on Mahalingam’s complaint, the police arrested the man under sections 294(b) (for uttering obscene words), 353 (for preventing the official from discharging his duty as public servant) and 506 (i) (for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was remanded in judicial custody.
